Happy Friday! Today is a double post day so make sure you scroll down to see the other challenge I’m participating in (it’s Rare and Precious!)
This is a pretty collage of flowers don’t ya think? Well, this is the inspiration photo for the Our Creative Corner challenge. The challenge is to create a card based on this photo but not using any flowers in the design!
Since no flowers are allowed I started my design by using a similar color palette as the inspiration photo. In trying to think of something similar to flowers I decided to use pinwheels – they both live in gardens, have stems, are colorful and can be displayed in a variety of containers. My card shows the pinwheels displayed in a stamped jar that resembles a Mason jar which is always a cute vase to use for flowers. I thought the background paper with the doily design was very intricate and detailed like the rose petals in the inspiration pic.
Here’s a close up of the jar detail on the card. I stamped the jar image on cardstock and then again on a glassine bag. I cut the jar from the glassine bag and then stamped a text background on it to give some dimension and then sewed the two jar pieces together to create a pocket for the pinwheels to slip into. I finished it off with the sentiment on a die cut label.
This would be a fun card to accompany of gift of homemade canned goods – fruits, veggies, jellies etc.
Hope you have a great weekend.

That’s beautiful Shannon. Quick question, how did you do your pinwheel flowers?? They are so so cute!!
Hi Shannon
Just wanted to say Congratulations on your win at Our Creative Corner. I think your card is an absolute stand out and it is really beautiful as well as very creative … I love how you have used the glassine bag over the jar, it looks so very effective … and finally, I think your pinwheels are super gorgeous as substitute flowers!!!
A well deserved win!!!
I love your use of the pinwheels as flowers! I will be using this idea in some of my card classes (not copying your card, though!). Terry
